Pirates' Marcano Out for Season with Knee Injury
Marcano Exits Game with Ligamentous Injury to Right Knee
WEB PITTSBURGH -- Following an extensive examination and collaboration with experts in the medical field, the Pirates determined that infielder Tucupita Marcano sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Tuesday night's game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Surgery Required, Season Likely Over
Marcano will undergo surgery to repair the torn ACL, and it is anticipated that he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season. The Pirates placed Marcano on the 60-day injured list.
Marcano left the game in the fifth inning after suffering the injury while attempting to field a ground ball at shortstop. He was immediately evaluated by the Pirates' medical staff and underwent an MRI exam, which confirmed the diagnosis.
This is a significant loss for the Pirates, as Marcano was one of the team's most promising young players. The 22-year-old Venezuelan was hitting .257 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 74 games this season.
