Marsh's bowling takes a back seat as fellow allrounders step up
Australia's Mitchell Marsh has been a revelation with the ball in recent times, but he is likely to be used sparingly in the upcoming series against India.
Marsh has taken 31 wickets in his past 10 Tests at an average of 20.51, including a five-wicket haul against England at The Oval last year. However, with fellow allrounders Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell also in the squad, Marsh may have to settle for a reduced role with the ball.
Green has been in outstanding form with the bat and ball in recent months, while Maxwell is a dangerous batsman who can also bowl handy offspin.
Marsh is a more than capable bowler, but he may have to accept that his primary role in the team is as a batsman. He is averaging 44.25 with the bat in Tests this year, and he has scored two centuries in his past three innings.
Marsh is a valuable member of the Australian team, and he will still be expected to contribute with the ball on occasion. However, it is likely that Green and Maxwell will be the team's primary allrounders in the series against India.
