Zverev Battles Through Injury Scare and Marathon Tiebreaker to Reach Wimbledon Fourth Round
Surviving a Knee Problem and Nerves to Secure a Place in the Last 16
Alexander Zverev has overcome a knee problem, a marathon tiebreaker, and his own nerves to secure a place in the fourth round of Wimbledon. The German fourth seed dropped just one service game on his way to a 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6(6) victory over British number one Cameron Norrie.
Zverev had received treatment on his knee during the second set, but he battled through the pain to eventually seal the victory in a tiebreaker that lasted for over 30 minutes.
"I'm just happy to be through," said Zverev after the match. "I didn't play my best tennis today, but I found a way to win. That's the most important thing."
Zverev's victory continues a strong run of form for the top 10 seeds at Wimbledon. All of the top 10 seeds have reached the fourth round, with only one of them having dropped a set so far.
The second week of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships begins today. Zverev will be back in action on Monday, when he will face either American Taylor Fritz or Australian Alex de Minaur in the fourth round.
