Biography
Early Life and Education
Kamala Devi Harris was born in Oakland, California on October 20, 1964. She is the eldest of two daughters born to Indian immigrants Shyamala Gopalan, a cancer researcher, and Donald Harris, a professor of economics.
Political Career
Harris began her political career as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She later served as District Attorney of San Francisco and Attorney General of California.
Vice President-Elect
On January 20, 2021, Harris was sworn in as Vice President of the United States, becoming the first woman, the first Black American, and the first South Asian American to hold the office.
