The 2024 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2024 or simply Euro 2024, will be the 17th edition of the UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men's football championship of Europe organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). It is scheduled to be held in Germany from 14 June to 14 July 2024.
Germany was announced as the host on 27 September 2018, after a bidding process that involved two other bids: one from Turkey and one from a joint bid from Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. It will be the third time that Germany has hosted the tournament, after 1988 (as West Germany) and 2006.
The tournament will feature 24 teams, up from 16 teams at the previous tournament. The format of the tournament will remain largely the same, with the 24 teams divided into six groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the round of 16, where they will be joined by the four best third-placed teams. The knockout stage will then consist of a round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final.
The defending champions are Italy, who defeated England in the final of the 2020 tournament. The tournament will be the first to use the semi-automated offside technology (SAOT), which uses multiple cameras to track the position of players and the ball in real time.
