American Airlines Flight Attendants Move Closer to Possible Strike

Union Authorizes Strike Vote, Citing Concerns Over Pay and Working Conditions

New Flight Attendants Earn $27,000 Annually, While CEO Earns $31.4 Million

American Airlines flight attendants have taken a key step towards a possible strike, as their union voted to authorize a walkout if the company does not agree to a reasonable contract. The move comes amid ongoing negotiations over pay, benefits, and working conditions.

According to the Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), which represents American Airlines' flight attendants, the median annual salary for a new flight attendant is $27,000. In contrast, the company's CEO, Robert Isom, earned $31.4 million in 2022.

The APFA argues that the company's proposed contract falls short of addressing the concerns raised by flight attendants. The union has said that it is prepared to go on strike if necessary, but it hopes that management will come to the negotiating table and reach a fair agreement.
