Joint Statement on Bilateral Ties, Regional Stability Issued

ANKARA, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said he and Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi agreed at a meeting on Wednesday to enhance bilateral cooperation in various sectors and address regional issues.

Raisi arrived in Turkey on Monday for a two-day visit aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. The Iranian president is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In a joint statement issued after their meeting, Erdogan and Raisi expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between Turkey and Iran and pledged to further deepen their relations.

"We discussed ways to enhance our cooperation in various fields, including trade, energy, tourism, and transportation," Erdogan said at a joint press conference with Raisi.

"We also exchanged views on regional issues, including the situation in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We agreed to continue our coordination and cooperation on these matters," he added.

Raisi, for his part, said that Iran and Turkey have "a long history of friendship and cooperation" and that the two countries share "common interests and concerns."

"We are determined to develop our bilateral relations in all areas," he said.

The visit by Raisi to Turkey is seen as a sign of warming relations between the two countries. In recent years, Ankara and Tehran have cooperated closely on a number of regional issues, including the fight against terrorism and the Syrian conflict.
